Dad’s Bathroom Renovation

Elizabeth Boland · Jan 29, 2014 ·

Over a year ago I blogged about my parents master bathroom with before pictures and our plan for a renovation. We had major plans to go into the closet and expand the footprint of the room, but like every project the budget dictated the overall outcome. Mom ended up keeping the same footprint of the old bathroom, which cut down on the cost tremendously, which turned out to be just perfect. We were able to squeeze in a little extra storage above the radiator by creating a built in armoire type radiator cover which doubles as a linen closet and space for toiletries. We reused the fabulous old sconces, and had them dipped to match the new chrome fixtures, got a tiny Restoration Hardware sink, and reused the old medicine cabinet. As it turns out, it’s really hard to find a cute mirror under 20″ wide! The bathroom turned out pretty good, as much as I loved the bathroom before the renovation it really needed to be redone!

I am a wife, Mom, and an Interior Designer. I love my job, and I love the fact that I get to work with one of my best friends. My Mom and I are partners in our Washington DC based design firm, Wilson Boland Design. In January 2010, we opened an Interior Design Studio in downtown Bethesda, which has evolved just as much as our business!

I started Haute Indoor Couture in the spring of 2011 to share portfolio pictures, inspiring ideas, and fellow designers with our clients and friends. I live for Interior Design and I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm with my readers. Most of the content you will find here is interior design, architecture, fashion, or canine related.

The shower is to the right of the sink! It's plain white subway tile so I didn't think it was anything to write home about, hence the lack of a picture 😉

I would love any details on the cabinet. It is amazing and I have similar situation and love that radiator cover. We don't have a radiator but a big vent I would love to cover and re-do the storage cabinet. Thanks for always inspiring me!

Hi Ingrid, we actually used two ikea kitchen cabinets to build the top portion (which butts all the way up to a bulkhead) and our contractor built the bottom. We painted it all one color and used the same hardware that we used in Moms kitchen which is Martha Stewart for Home Depot.

Your dad must be very happy with the result because it looks amazing. And it’s a great idea that you painted it white, nothing can go wrong with color white in my opinion. It adds a modern touch in a room and it’s very classy. Anyway, did you do all the work yourself? If yes, you nailed it! And thanks to your mom for keeping those items because it fits perfectly.
