Kitchen Project

Elizabeth Boland · Mar 30, 2011 ·

Thanks to Ikea, a new kitchen is with-in almost anyone’s budget. Between the two of us Mom, and I have worked on well over 100 kitchens, so naturally she said if she was going to re do her kitchen she wanted to do it right the first time. Her ideal kitchen budget was 10 times the amount she had to spend, so I suggested Ikea. She thought I was crazy for even suggesting it, so to test it out I renovated a tester kitchen with Ikea cabinets similar to the ones I thought would be perfect for her Kitchen. The White Lidingo door fronts with Martha Stewart for Home Depot cabinet hardware.

The Tester Kitchen

As much as I loved Grandma Lizzie’s old avocado GE range, it was time to go! Two burners were reliable, three if you hit the coils just right and didn’t expect it to stay hot for more than 30 minutes. The drawers were falling off, and no we did not purposely pull them off for our before pictures. The dishwasher would spew left over water and suds into the sink every time we ran it, and our refrigerator was dubbed “the munchkin fridge” because my father bought it online and didn’t check the dimensions.

Several weeks and take out meals later… Mom’s Dream Kitchen is Complete 😉

About Elizabeth Boland

I am a wife, Mom, and an Interior Designer. I love my job, and I love the fact that I get to work with one of my best friends. My Mom and I are partners in our Washington DC based design firm, Wilson Boland Design. In January 2010, we opened an Interior Design Studio in downtown Bethesda, which has evolved just as much as our business!

I started Haute Indoor Couture in the spring of 2011 to share portfolio pictures, inspiring ideas, and fellow designers with our clients and friends. I live for Interior Design and I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm with my readers. Most of the content you will find here is interior design, architecture, fashion, or canine related.

The kitchen is gorgeous. Can I ask where you got the beautiful light?

The ceiling light is the Tuxedo Chandelier from Z Gallerie-$699! http://www.zgallerie.com/p-1462-tuxedo-chandelier.aspx

The sconces over the sink are Visual Comfort lights.

Just Beautiful! I am in the middle of remodeling my kitchen with the same white cabinets from Ikea. What hardware did you/your mom use in her kitchen?

Thanks, we used pulls from the Martha Stewart line at Home Depot. They are an in stock item so you won't have to wait for a special order.

I love this kitchen and it has convinced me to do an ikea kitchen! Are the counter tops carrara marble? I love them! And is the sink also from ikea?

Yes the countertop is carrara marble, and the sink and faucet were both form Overstock.com!
