Decorating is definitely a long process. When working with a strict budget, like 98% of our clients, decorating with what you have can be a challenge; especially when you are moving into a new home. The beautiful living room furniture in the old house might be the wrong scale for your new living room, your old bedroom drapes might not be the right length for your new bedroom… the list goes on. Today I want to share one of my favorite projects that truly has been a process, and is still not complete.
Phase 1 started with the major renovations:
1. Rip out all the old wall to wall carpeting in the entire house.
2. Tear down a wall between the tiny “den” and the kitchen to create one large family kitchen.
3. Drywall over dated paneling in the living room and install a faux coffered ceiling.
4. New kitchen cabinets, appliances, and lighting.
The cost of renovating puts a big dent in the decorating budget so we had to come up with a decorating game plan that was more long term. First floor Phase 1 consisted of purchasing new Ikea parsons chairs for the dining room, a worlds away inspired sideboard, new kitchen chairs, and lamps for the living room.
One year later came Phase 2: Hanging drapes in the kitchen, dining room, living room and foyer.
Phase 3 will probably be next year. On our list of things to purchase are two new burlap chairs for either side of the fireplace and the diamond print seagrass rug for the living room, as well as a muted blue green silver tone oriental rug for the dining room.
Patience is key when decorating. There are some things you will simply never find at Home Goods, so waiting for the perfect finishing touch is definitely worth the wait.

Stunning transformation! I love it all. I, too, would love to know the paint color of the dining room, if you don't mind sharing.
The dining room color is Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp 1570. Living Room is Hollingsworth Green HC 141 walls and Greenmount Silk HC 3 for the ceiling. The Kitchen Walls are smoke embers AC-28.
Not all the colors will look the same as they do in the pictures so try a sample first if you are thinking of re painting a room!
