The Newlywed’s Pad

Elizabeth Boland · Jul 15, 2011 ·

I thought living in an all white apartment would be sterile but there is something soothing about the monochromatic palate, painting the rooms and having to repaint them when we move out seemed silly anyway. I have fallen in love with the one color for every room look that nine times out of ten I never recommend for my clients. The apartment is not totally finished but then again what place ever is? I am constantly finding new things and adding bits here and there. We don’t have bedside tables yet but running out and purchasing cheap pieces just to finish a room has never been my style. Ultimately you end up settling for something you don’t love and you feel guilty spending money on the perfect thing when you finally find it. Henry and the Mr. don’t seem to mind the fact that our lamps are uneven in the bedroom so why should it bother me? Married life is good, and our first place is a dream come true.
Most girls my age have fabulous wardrobes, but when I get a little money to
spend I go straight for lamps and vintage furniture.

Grandma Lizzie’s glamorous lamp is one of my favorite thing’s in the apartment!
If it wasn’t a rental I would tear that fan out of the ceiling and replace it with a chandelier in a heart beat! I hate ceiling fans, and ceiling fans with lights? BARF! I took the light bulbs out of the fans in both bedrooms so that even if the Mr. wanted to turn them on he couldn’t 😉

Still waiting for the other bamboo rod to arrive, grrrr

I am a wife, Mom, and an Interior Designer. I love my job, and I love the fact that I get to work with one of my best friends. My Mom and I are partners in our Washington DC based design firm, Wilson Boland Design. In January 2010, we opened an Interior Design Studio in downtown Bethesda, which has evolved just as much as our business!

I started Haute Indoor Couture in the spring of 2011 to share portfolio pictures, inspiring ideas, and fellow designers with our clients and friends. I live for Interior Design and I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm with my readers. Most of the content you will find here is interior design, architecture, fashion, or canine related.

You have a lovely home indeed and the interior lends itself to one who has a definite love of elegance and it shows.
    Well done!

Your home is beautiful! And such lovely photos. Could you share the maker of your living room sofa? And also your bedroom room? They are both quite yummy! I am so with you on using gift money for interiors! I just got some $ for my birthday, and I'm torn between some art and a new rug 🙂 xoxo

Our Living room sofa is a Lee Industries sofa. It is so comfortable. I decided to go with Lee because my Mom's Lee sofa is 18 years old and it looks exactly the same as the day she got it. Tight back sofas with throw pillows are the best at maintaining their shape over the years.

The Bedroom Rug is by Karastan in an Antelope print that I got on from a remnant sale.

Your home is stunning! It looks as though you have lived there for many years. I especially love the dining room light shade.

Believe it or not the mirror was from TJ Maxx… $99.99! Restoration Hardware sells similar mirrors if you can't find one at HomeGoods or TJ Maxx

naturalarearugs.com … it's a great site. I ordered the coastal seagrass rug which is out of stock right now in any size over 4×6 but you can't go wrong with any seagrass really. Good luck!

I came over from Rene's and have to give you big kudos for creating such a beautifully designed space. You got talent, Lady. And I love what you said about spending money of decor over wardrobe. I'm not the only one…

Love your apartment. It's absolutely beautiful. Where are your tables from? Especially the glass one with the white legs, so pretty.

      April 13, 2012 at 5:32 pm

Thank you so much! The glass top coffee table in the living room was my husbands grandmothers, and our dining room table that you like so much is an antique my Mom picked up 12 years ago. I can't even imagine how much it would be if we saw it in an antique store today! Thanks for stopping by.

I am very interested in your paint color. Can you give the name? And, did you paint all of most of your rooms the same shade?
    Thanks!

      Hi Lacey,

It is a rental apartment and yes all the rooms are painted the same color, Benjamin Moore White Ice OC-58 except the bathroom which is Benjamin Moore Simply White. The paint is an egg shell finish.

      Hi Eric,
It is the Zentique Inc. Dome Chandelier. They used to have it online at Sears but now I think they have it at wayfair.com. Good luck!
