Thanksgiving Traditions

Elizabeth Boland · Nov 23, 2011 ·

Every family has their own Thanksgiving traditions, growing up, one of my favorite traditions was watching the Macy’s Day Parade. I love the fact that Macy’s has shut down the streets of New York every Thanksgiving since 1924 (with the exception of 1942-44 when the Parade took a hiatus due to WWII.) In 1924 Macy’s employees as well as animals from the Central Park Zoo were the main event, and in 1927 they introduced the helium filled balloons for the first time which they actually released at the end of the parade! As it turned out releasing the balloons into the Manhattan city skyline was not such a good idea… see the video fotage here. The Parade has come a long way since its debut in 1924 and I look forward to it every year.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

About Elizabeth Boland

I am a wife, Mom, and an Interior Designer. I love my job, and I love the fact that I get to work with one of my best friends. My Mom and I are partners in our Washington DC based design firm, Wilson Boland Design. In January 2010, we opened an Interior Design Studio in downtown Bethesda, which has evolved just as much as our business!

I started Haute Indoor Couture in the spring of 2011 to share portfolio pictures, inspiring ideas, and fellow designers with our clients and friends. I live for Interior Design and I love sharing my passion and enthusiasm with my readers. Most of the content you will find here is interior design, architecture, fashion, or canine related.
